Tarras are a 6 piece band hailing from the north of England and the borders of Scotland. They play an exciting blend of self penned songs and traditional material, reworked in the bands distinctive way. Using instruments including accordion, violin, cittern and mandolin, Tarras have a traditional sound, but fused with drums, piano, guitar and bass, the songs and arrangements are contemporary in style and delivery.
Shaun O’Reilly might be familiar to progressive rock music fans as a half of “War Elephant”, a pair of musicians who recorded challenging, creative music and toured the UK and Ireland extensively. However, Shaun’s fondness for blues, folk and Americana led him to jump on the opportunity to pursue a solo career and express his passion for roots music and contemporary singer-songwriting. Shaun’s vivid blend of storytelling echoes the work of beat authors such as Charles Bukowski, William S. Burroughs and more modern authors such as Irvine Welsh. His words are poignant and poetic, yet down to earth and extremely easy to relate to. His recent EP, “Vultures & Wine” is a bittersweet collection of tunes that blur the lines between the melancholic mellowness of Elliott Smith and the blues bark of artists like Captain Beefheart.
