The beautiful surroundings of The Basement Bar make the perfect environment to see this summer’s most innovative, creative and funny shows before they head up to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
As always the line up is an eclectic mix with something for everyone. From established TV regulars and award winners to this year’s hotly tipped rising stars.
The venue regularly packs out so this year you can guarantee a seat to any of our double bills for just £5 (entry) or alternatively, just show up on the night and pay what you want at the end of the show.
Lucy Porter: Pass It On (preview)
A brand-new stand-up show from the perennial Fringe favourite. As seen on QI, Room 101 and Live at the Apollo. As heard on BBC Radio 4’s News Quiz and The Now Show. Always warm, witty and thought-provoking, this is Lucy’s best show yet. She muses on what we receive from our ancestors and what we pass on to future generations. Lucy’s inherited dodgy knees and global warming from her parents, but can she leave a better legacy for her children? ‘Impeccably punch-lined anecdotes… genuinely delightful’ (Telegraph). ‘A treat from start to finish’ (Herald).
Ben Pope: Baby Sasquatch (preview)
Ben Pope is an award-winning comedian and cosmopolitan mammal. In this, his debut hour of stand-up, the hapless beast tries to find a nest. Expect jokes and stories on millennial rootlessness, finding and escaping yourself, Scandinavia and milk. Piccadilly Comedy Club New Comedian of the Year 2017 and So You Think You’re Funny finalist 2015. As seen on Comedy Central Online and heard on BBC Radio 4 Extra. Praise for previous work: ‘Hilarious’ (List). ‘Straight-up hilarious’ (Telegraph). ‘Ridiculously hilarious’ (Skinny).
