Pear O'Legs Records Presents: James Patrick Gavin + Skymaps

POLR Presents is back bringing you the best in contemporary and traditional folk music at The Harrison, voted Time Out’s best pub in King’s Cross 2018.

James Patrick Gavin

London born multi-instrumentalist James Patrick Gavin creates folk music that dances the line between tradition and irreverence, London and Ireland, groove and grace. Known for previous work with TEYR, The Rad Orchestra and Jez Hellard & The Djukella Orchestra, his debut solo album Chewing the Fat was released in February 2018 to wide acclaim. Described as “magnificent” by FolkRadioUK, the record contained a wealth of new and old material that weaved together three generations of his own Irish family.

“The sound of today’s London Irish” – Mark Radcliffe

“A tapestry that stitches together ideas of place, identity and continuity. Dazzling.” RnR Magazine

Skymaps, once known simply as “Maps”, are a London based trio who have been playing together since meeting in 2013, cutting their teeth alongside bands such as More Ice and Honey and The Medlars. The band consists of Charlie Donaldson on guitar, Evan Wroe on violin and Leo Middleton on mandolin and concertina. Skypmaps are an exciting new band emerging onto the London folk scene, combining traditional songs, tunes and styles with contemporary writing to confidently bring together the old and the new. Their music strikes a balance between the contemporary folk stylings of the likes of Lau and Johnny Flynn and singer-songwriters such as Sufjan Stevens and Roo Panes. Skymaps have released two singles through two of the UCL Folk and World Music Society’s Compilation Albums, and will shortly be releasing their debut EP.
