Pear O'Legs Records Presents: Leonie Evans + Nina Harries

POLR Presents, bringing you the best in contemporary and traditional folk music every first Tuesday of the month at The Harrison Pub.

This month we’ll be bringing you two solo power houses so don’t miss it.

Leonie Evans

Leonie Evans was born and raised on the edge of South East London and Kent.
She’s a multi-instrumentalist, singer songwriter and occasional session vocalist, teacher and event organiser who has been performing since the age of five and has never stopped.

She performs exquisite dreamy, jazzy and unclassifiable songs with her rare voice. Performing around the world with many other musicians, collaborating and collecting with her ever growing musical family.

Her first “real” solo album, Collaborations Volume 1,
sees the perfect execution of a wonderfully spontaneous Leonie Evans kind of idea. One day she decided she was going to travel around England with her guitar and rucksack, visiting some of her favourite bands & recording a single song with each. So she did.

“Like nothing else I’ve ever heard in my life”, “I was just blown away with her” Cerys Matthews, BBC Radio 6

“Jazz and Folk flirt en route to New Orleans via Canterbury with Evans’ slinky, supple vocal…One slot on Later with Jools holland is all it would take” Prog Magazine

Nina Harries

Trained in classical music at the Royal College of
Music, London, Nina Harries is a soloist who uses only her double bass and renowned singing voice to create ground-breaking performances.

Her original songs take influence from cabaret, Bjork, Mogwai, opera, Andrew Bird, Mitski and Joanna Newsom, and her work unapologetically dismantles worldwide preconceptions about the double bass as an instrument, the roles of women in performance and the idea of what a modern musician should be.

In 2017 she was awarded a grant by PRS Women Make Music Fund to record her debut album, which will be released later on in 2018. Along with breaking new ground with her instrument Nina is also a feminist writer and comedian, incorporating this into her performances.

In 2017 Nina joined the Akram Khan Company, to perform as Double Bassist and Vocalist in Akram Khan’ critically acclaimed final solo performance, XENOS, which is touring internationally for 2018 and 2019

“A clear winner for us – her inventive use of the double bass and the distinctive clarity of her voice… marks her out as an impressive soloist.” Crack Magazine
